WHO I AM
A proud New Zealander (Kiwi) Karen has been painting for 21 years both commercially and as an artist. Karen got her start creating fresco painting with renown decorative artist and designer, Tara Trompetter in British Columbia, creating mantles, murals, wall coverings and ceiling finishes. This training was a springboard from which Karen jumped into Mixed-Media, Secco/Fresco-Secco painting, where the painting is done on dry plaster, making each art piece unique. Given the many-layered approached to her painting, each piece takes days of layering with acrylics and the raised plaster means Karen’s paintings cannot be reproduced in prints. Each one is Original! Karen’s inspiration for paintings comes from life’s observance and the vision of her surroundings. Thus, you will note in looking at Karen’s work, the many influences in her art from New Zealand, British Columbia and Newfoundland. As a sideline, an interesting fact is that Karen is an accomplished Softball Champion, playing for New Zealand, and Canada on an International level. However, painting is her passion as her art can tell you!
